West Windsor Arts

West Windsor Arts invited members of the Art Alliance of Monmouth to show work in their gallery. and they accepted two of mine. I’ve been meaning to check out WWA for some time, say five or ten years. I thought Princeton was far. Surprisingly its only half an hour away, no further than The Guild and the Art Alliance. It’s a large lovely bright space. The reception is September 13, 2024.

The two works selected both deal with the exuberance of morning, when the potential of the day is boundless.

This is a scene from the Craige House part of Monmouth Battlefield. I dropped my husband off at the bus to New York and I went across the street to watch the sunrise. This scene must have been 5:30 or 6 am when the sun was still low in the horizon. The cool shadow of the tree canopy was creeping across the field while the distance and the foreground was lit with oranges and greens.

Process note: I incorporated vibration into my painting, to make the colors more vivid and give it a sense of motion by dotting the green with orange and visa versa.

This painting came about as a result of another early morning romp, ie- walking my dog in Opatut Park. Its about the exuberance of morning when all your dreams can still come true. The ballfield in morning has an air of expectation, of excitement in abeyance, of waiting for the players. When my son was young, he spent all week waiting for game day and counting down the minutes on the day itself. We all have those days, of waking up with excitement to meet a long awaited day.

Process Note: This painting is on a metallic gold ground. I like painting on gold gesso because it requires some negative painting. In this work, some of the gold ground is showing in the clouds.
